Q: How would you describe yourself?

A: I am motivated, outgoing, and I have a large range of interests, which is why Communications is a great major for me. It is broad enough and it allows me to explore a variety of subjects.

Q: What are your aspirations?

A: They're constantly changing. I'm interested in doing something in entertainment and sports. I took Comm 207 (Economic Thinking for Communication and Journalism) last semester and I think the business side of the industry is where I'm headed.

Q: Why sports?

A: I grew up around all boys. My dad is a big sports fanatic, and my brother has always played sports. I've always been a tomboy at heart.

Q: Did you watch the Super Bowl ads this year during the game, or online after the fact? Were any of them particularly memorable?

A: Yes, I'm a huge football fan so I watched every minute of the Super Bowl, including the commercials. I thought the Acura commercial with Jerry Seinfeld was pretty memorable and funny, and I thought it appealed to a wide range of ages.

Q: What is your typical day like for you as an Annenberg student?

A: I only have class on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, although that means some of my days are seven hours long. I live in my sorority house and I'm heavily involved in the Greek community. I’ve also been volunteered in the Annenberg Television News Sports department, and I'm a member of the Sigma Alpha Lambda honors association.

Q: What aspect of the Communication major have you found to be most rewarding?

A: It is really great to see the prestige of a lot of the faculty, the connections Annenberg provides, and renowned guest speakers that the school brings in.

Q: Tell me a bit about your experience in Comm 207, which, along with Comm 208, is one of the building blocks of the M{2e} curriculum.

I found the subject material to be very interesting and useful. When I study for the class, I don't feel like I'm studying. I really get a sense that the economic side of the industry is complex, and there are many political and economic factors that prevent progress from happening.

Q: What are the staples in your media diet?

A: I consume a lot of media on a regular basis. I would say the Internet and television are the staples in my media diet, but I love movies as well.

Q: Would you say that you are more of a "blockbuster" or "indie culture" kind of girl?

A: If I had to choose between the two, I would say I lean more towards being a "blockbuster" girl, although I wouldn't use that to define my movie tastes. The types of movies I love are psychological thrillers--the ones that make you think, have a complex plot, and usually have a huge twist in the end. Christopher Nolan is my favorite director and has several movies that epitomize my tastes: The Prestige, Memento, and Inception, and I'm even a huge sucker for his remake of Batman starring Christian Bale (who happens to be my favorite actor).

Q: What are your favorite TV shows right now? On what type of screen do you prefer to watch them?

A: My favorite TV shows are Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Dexter--I'm a fan of the premium channels. I definitely prefer to watch them on a television, but while I'm at school I have to settle for my computer most of the time.

Q: I understand you have been following the development of Google TV and other forms of "connected viewing" experiences. What do you think about innovations like these?

A: I think the development of Google TV and similar ideas are both innovative and imminent. Technology has developed at such a rapid pace, and I think the major broadcast networks have prevented the integration of internet with television from happening as quickly as it should have. The 21st century is sure to see some amazing advancements in technology, and anyone who resists adopting products like Google TV is simply naive and inhibiting the inevitable.
